Welcome to the Town of Chatham Collection System Construction Project Website

The Town of Chatham began its most recent facilities planning process in the mid 1990’s and has developed a plan for which this initial construction is the first step in completing the implementation of the plan.

The initial sanitary sewer (collection system) construction project will provide sewer service along several major routes in Chatham including Main Street/ Route 28, George Ryder Road, Barn Hill Road and the Meadow View neighborhood.  Please visit the Areas of Work page to see a description of these areas. Please visit the Schedule page for an update on the schedules. Please visit our listing of Chatham Businesses, for more information on their location, hours of operation.  Requests to add Chatham business can be sent to the Town or the  project manager listed on our Contact's Page.

The construction of the collection system has been split into three separate contracts, one for the 5 pumping stations, one for the work
along Route 28, and one for the work along roads and neighborhoods north and south of Route 28.  There will be both sections of conventional gravity sewer and low pressure sewers (served by grinder pumps).

Due to the varying topography of Chatham, there may also be properties although adjacent to a gravity sewer that may be required to pump to that system because of the elevation of the home or septic system relative to the elevation of the road.

Every effort will be made to minimize the inconvenience and impact on area businesses, residents and the public.  The Town is asking for, and appreciates, the public’s patience and cooperation during this environmentally important project.
